Malaga looks to the future

Over the last decade, the capital of the Costa del Sol has seen an unprecedented transformation. The current make-up of the city of Malaga is the result of the first Strategic Plan, which the City Council and the CIEDES* Foundation (Malaga’s Centre for Strategic, Economic Development and Social Research) began to work on in 1993. Today, all the institutions and social agents involved in the Foundation are working towards one common goal: the 2nd Strategic Plan, a document already providing the blueprint for one of Spain’s leading cities.

| The translucent hermitage: A visit to the murals dreamt up by Evaristo Guerra |

“It was a dream, my dream.” It took Evaristo Guerra eleven years of his life to fulfi l the promise he one day made to Our Lady of Succour of Vélez-Málaga. The fi nal result is simply magical. The artist, from the Axarquía region of the province of Malaga, has succeeded in bringing the imaginary landscape of his childhood inside this hermitage. The brightness and colour of a time now past once more shine out from murals lit up by the painter’s art.

Picasso, muses and models
The most recent exhibition at Malaga’s Picasso Museum features a total of 46 paintings, 14 drawings and 6 sculptures, reflecting on the powerful presence of women in Picasso’s plastic works. Delicately sensual or deeply carnal, temperamental or serene, they became his chief source of inspiration. The works which make up this exhibition originally formed part of the collection owned by Jacqueline Picasso, and will be on show until 28 February 2007.
