Málaga, convention city

Málaga, convention city

Malaga’s strategic geographical location provides a great range of opportunities in terms of economic and socio-cultural development. Three thousand years of history have made it an open, outward-looking, commercial and welcoming place; in a word, a cosmopolitan city with eternally universal aspirations. The capital of the Costa del Sol offers everything required for organising conferences, launches, conventions, incentive trips or any other kind of event, along with Europe’s finest climate. The Trade Fair and Congress Centre, one of the most modern in Spain, has ever since it was opened been developing new business opportunities in the world of trade fairs and conventions. Meanwhile, the city itself offers excellent hotel accommodation, function rooms equipped with the latest technology, a marvellous natural setting, theatres, museums and exhibition halls, representing a first-rate range of supplementary facilities.

Trade fair and congress center

Located at the nexus of motorways and highways which connect Malaga with the remaining cities of Andalusia, the Trade Fair and Congress Centre is easy and quick to reach thanks to its proximity to the airport, the railway station and the coach station, as well as the Technology Park and University.
Malaga is Spain’s second communications and transport centre, and the foremost hub in the south of the country. Its airport, the third biggest on the Iberian peninsula, handling more than 10 million passengers a year, links Malaga with over 60 destinations worldwide, and has a capacity for 500 flights a day. The railway system from 2007 also includes a high speed train network, while the refurbished cruise ship terminal, the second in terms of size on the peninsula and one of the Mediterranean’s most important, added to an extensive highways network, guarantee ease of access to the city.
The Malaga Trade Fair and Congress Centre has defined its business strategy by providing a multi-functional space, which includes both a Trade Fair Complex and Congress Centre, meaning that the venue can host trade fairs, congresses or congresses featuring exhibitions.
The Malaga Trade Fair Complex is home to various types of events: professional salons, expos open to the public and combinations of the two, of regional, national and international standing. The Trade Fair and Congress Centre has since the very outset shown a particular desire to take a leading role in events connected with the cities of the Mediterranean arc.
As a Congress Centre, the building is equipped to organise any type of conference event, with or without an Expo area. The site’s features serve to make the Centre the perfect setting for any kind of national or international gathering: conventions, corporate presentations, shareholders’ meetings, seminars, training courses, conferences, etc.
Its modern design recreates the feel of the Mediterranean, to which the development of the city is so closely tied: the distinctive lines of the roof represent an undulating sea of aluminium, in which swims a great titanium fish, a symbol which combines the city’s maritime tradition with the image of modernity, progress and dynamism presented by 21st-century Malaga.
The Centre covers an area of 60,000 square metres, with two halls connected to an extensive central courtyard, an auditorium, four conference areas, a sizeable lobby, catering areas, parking for 1,200 vehicles and every ancillary service one would expect in the sector.

Well equipped hotels

The city currently offers accommodation for more than 3,700 visitors, with plans for 15 new hotels which will add a total of another 1,582 beds.
This strong upsurge in new hotels is based on the dynamism and future potential which the city has created, both within Spain and abroad.
The hotel sector itself, aware of the considerable new business being generated by the Trade Fair Centre, has modernised its facilities to meet the needs of this type of business tourism. These establishments are complete with meeting and conference rooms, technical equipment for holding such events, suites for functions, receptions, cocktail parties... In short, they can provide their guests with the necessary infrastructure for any kind of gathering.
Meanwhile, the city of Malaga is home to unique venues which have been also served as the setting for major events, such as the La Concepción Botanical-Historical Gardens, Gibralfaro Castle, the port complex, the Martín Carpena Sports Centre and the Cortijo de Torres festival complex, among others.
The golfing opportunities offered by Malaga and the surrounding Costa del Sol also, of course, enjoy worldwide fame. Water sports represent another of the city’s major attractions, with 10 marinas located within easy reach, offering berths for 3,000 vessels.
And we must not, of course, overlook the wide and varied range of food and drink, featuring everything from the most appetising of traditional dishes to the latest culinary trends, whether in the historic old town or on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Málaga Convention Bureau

The Malaga Convention Bureau (MCB) is a department of the Malaga City Council’s Tourist Board, specialising in meetings tourism with the underlying aim of promoting the city as a venue for congresses, conventions and incentive trips.
The MCB works essentially in two spheres: consultancy services for the planning and organisation of meetings, and the promotion of the city of Malaga as a destination within the meetings tourism sector.
