The modern marinas which dot the coast of Andalusia go to make up some of the most complete nautical
facilities anywhere in the world. In this article we give a brief introduction to each of the region’s harbour
complexes, some of which enjoy international fame. Nautical tourism has huge potential in Andalusia
thanks to its excellent climate, the well-appointed infrastructure and the varied and plentiful additional
opportunities available. The marinas of southern Spain are excellent bases for leisure and relaxation, perfectly
designed to offer the widest range of both sporting and free-time activities.

YACHTING HARBOUR ON THE COSTAL DEL SOl

CALETA DE VÉLEZ MARINA. Located 500 metres from the Torre del Mar tourist centre, Caleta de
Vélez Marina offers 292 berths right alongside a host of leisure and sporting
facilities.
Its privileged location also gives easy access to the nearby beaches

EL CANDADO MARINA. Small but beautifully formed, El Candado is a watchword among sailing
circles in the province of Malaga. Located very close to the provincial capital,
as well as numerous beaches, residential developments and sports
and leisure facilities. 256 berths available.

REAL CLUB MEDITERRÁNEO, MÁLAGA. Founded in 1873, the Real Club Mediterráneo is Spain’s oldest yacht club,
and one of Europe’s leading nautical centres. Its location, just a stone’s
throw from the city centre, is unbeatable for those wishing to take in
Malaga’s traditional architecture, culture, food and drink and festivities.

BENALMADENA MARINA. Benalmádena Marina, twice winner of the World’s Best Marina award, is
viewed as one of the Mediterranean’s most striking port and residential
complexes. It has 1,100 berths, and features a fusion of Indian, Arab and
Andalusian architectural styles.
Holder of a European Blue Flag since 1987 for the quality of its
services and its waters.

FUENGIROLA MARINA. A charming port tucked away between Fuengirola’s popular beaches, in
the very heart of the town. The harbour complex, with 226 berths, offers
direct access to one of Spain’s longest and best tended seaside promenades,
fl anked by modern hotels, an endless array of restaurants and
plentiful leisure and nightlife venues.

CABOPINO MARINA. This beautiful marina it is located just a few miles from Marbella, the tourist
city par excellence.
Nestled among pine trees and sand dunes, Cabopino is a paradise
for sailors, offering every imaginable service. The perfect spot for those
seeking a quiet place to drop anchor.

LA BAJADILLA MARINA. In the old fi sherman’s district of Marbella, alongside the fi shing port
itself, La Bajadilla is the most recently built of the four marinas within
the city’s boundaries.
Noted for its traditional fried fi sh restaurants, it has the additional
advantage of its proximity to Marbella’s many attractions.

PUERTO DEPORTIVO DE MARBELLA. Located in the centre of Marbella, this is one of the most long-standing
harbours on the Costa del Sol.
The site, at the centre of the Promenade, is in the midst of the city’s
beaches and all its tourist facilities. Yachts and other smaller vessels lie
alongside a host of nightlife venues.

JOSÉ BANÚS MARINA. This is itself a tourist destination within the coastal region around Marbella.
Positioned 3 miles from the city centre, and with an international
perspective thanks to its exclusive stores, famous restaurants, luxurious
yachts and the beautiful people often to be seen enjoying its facilities.

ESTEPONA MARINA. Located just 5 minutes from the town centre, this delightful complex has
an undeniably seafaring feel, making a visit a true pleasure, taking in the
smell of the salt and the marvellous view of a sea bobbing with boats.
Excellent restaurants, bars and nightclubs are in plentiful supply, along
with a smart shopping area.

LA DUQUESA MARINA. To be found in the borough of Manilva, a short distance away from Estepona
itself, La Duquesa perfectly combines its sailing facilities with the
nearby beaches and golf courses. The distinctive design of the marina
also gives access to fi ne restaurants and varied nightlife.

COSTA DE ALMERÍA. The province of Almeria has nine marinas along its appealing coastline. The
distinctive beauty of Cabo de Gata, protected as a national park, is one of
the most striking incentives to drop anchor at any of the region’s harbours.
The fi shing available, and the clear, well-populated seabed, make the Almerian
coastline the perfect destination for any sailor in search of adventure.

COSTA TROPICAL-GRANADA. Located between the region’s two largest tourist destinations, Motril and
Almuñécar, the Costa Tropical has two marinas. The proximity to the city
of Granada, the diving areas available and the varied leisure, culture and
food and drink on offer make the coastline of Granada province a hugely
attractive mooring spot.

COSTA DE LA LUZ-CÁDIZ. The eleven marinas of the coast of Cadiz province are among the fi nest on
the Atlantic coast. They include such luxurious facilities as those of Sotogrande,
along with cosier but equally charming harbours such as Sancti
Petri, in Chiclana. The area’s particular appeals include the maritime grandeur
of the Strait of Gibraltar, the strength of the prevailing winds which
whip along the coast, perfect for all kinds of sail sports, and the nautical
beauty of the mouth of the River Guadalquivir.

COSTA DE LA LUZ-HUELVA. With six marinas dotted along its coastline, between broad, sandy beaches,
the section of the Costa de la Luz within Huelva province is another
perfect spot to furl your sails. The coast from which Columbus set off
in search of The Indies has sailing in its blood. Tourist developments in
many areas over recent years have provided the province with the facilities
required in order to offer visitors every possible service.

SEVILLA. The only Spanish inland city with a fi rst-rate port, both for pleasure cruisers
and regular freight traffi c, it was centuries ago the world’s largest,
thanks to the trade with the Americas. The three marinas all offer the
perfect base for river sailing.
