The farewell of the Volvo Masters, following its 21-year history in Andalusia, and the celebration of the International Golf Travel Market in Marbella from 17-20 November put the Costa del Sol back in the centre of the golf map of the Old Continent. The first of the two is certainly not an expedient bit of news, but those of us in the sector will not back down in our attempt to continue attracting and organizing similar or even larger competitions, and we must all stick together in this endeavour. The fact that the IGTM is returning to Marbella is more than ample proof that we are still at the forefront in the ranking of golf destinations, and it will be the perfect showcase for us to observe present and future evolution of this extremely important segment in the tourism industry. Going for the green to boost the hopes of European and national golfers has never been more appropriate. Indeed, this issue dedicates quite a few pages to the history of this fine sport, pointing out some of the key particulars and commenting on the positive effects it can have on our health.
In addition to greens, the arrival of autumn also presents us with a renewed offer of cultural events. Picasso and jazz are the two main dishes served up on this issue’s agenda. Also of interest is the Tourism Promotion Plan for the Serranía de Ronda region, an initiative which will prove highly beneficial to 20 towns in the Genal and Guadiaro Valleys.
Despite economic setbacks, the Costa del Sol continues to offer a mild climate at this time of year, as well as a multitude of activities to enjoy during your stay. |
